Mosaic Artwork of Sonia King

Sonia King infuses the mosaic craft with an original creative sensibility that results in beautiful organic works of art. Sonia was first exposed to mosaics through her mother who worked in the medium. Sonia later received a BFA and MBA and after a successful business career returned to the arts. She is a founding member and past President of the Society of American Mosaic Artists as well as instructor in mosaics at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas. Sonia has been granted membership and serves as a Vice President of the Associazione Internazionale Mosaicisti Contemporanei (AIMC) in Ravenna, Italy. She describes her artistic process:
My design process is completely intuitive, integrating technique and vision. I am driven by the desire to work with a huge variety of tesserae. I collect materials from around the world, such as shells, mineral specimens, unusual tiles, anything that captures my interest. The ideas about how to use these materials may percolate for years or may be immediately apparent.

  1. Absolutely Amazing!! As a starting mosaic craftsmen I have been drawn in by the look of garden
art and found examples of this on Pinterest.

  2. Rosie Spiers

The list of ‘ingredients’ are like a recipe of lovliness. Beautiful work.

  3. I just started in this medium. I have been a craftsman and artist for years. While creating my first mosaic project and even though we were given colored tiles by the instructor, I choose to add some mosaic jewelry beads to my project. The other students loved what I created and the instructor, I believe, was excited and amazed that I had done this without any instruction from him. The finished piece was beautiful and perfect in my eyes, which I believe is one of the most important aspects when creating artwork….

  4. stunning / impeccable craftsmanship

  5. so unexpected and dramatic………..gorgeous!

  6. When I was young I was very fascinated by mosaics especially these composed by ceramic and glasses tesserae… but when I’ve seen these I loved them from the first time… I never imagined it was possible mixing so different materials and obtaining this wonderfull effects… I’m speechless
