YA author John Green and his puff

Have you heard of NaNoWriMo? National Novel Writing Month, the brainchild of Christ Baty, is a super-cool web event that has attracted a gazillion people (or somewhere north of 150K worldwide) to write 50,000 words of a novel in the month of November. To support writers during November (and all year-round), the site is chock full of great forums, interviews, pep talks, and videos. Here's one of those great videos from quirky, funny young adult author John Green, who has more stuff at the NerdFighters site he hosts with his brother (who is probably also a funny guy too). If you think NaNoWriMo sounds insane--you're right. It is. And it's great. And it works (author's disclosure: I did NaNo last year and I'm now writing my first novel). Whether you're a nineteen year old college student in Sydney or a thirty-five year old fisherman in Cornwall, there's nothing that gets you writing like writing. And if you think NaNoWriMo is for novices, then you haven't heard about the origins of a little-known work called Water for Elephants. And if you haven't heard of that book yet, after the movie comes out with Robert Pattinson, Reese Whitherspoon and Christoph Waltz, it will be hard to miss.
