Painterly Portraits of Michael Carson

Painterly Portraits of Michael Carson

Born in Minneapolis in 1972, Michael Carson graduated from the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Design and worked as a graphic artist before pursuing painting full-time. Inspired by artists including Toulouse Lautrec and John Singer Sargent, Carson's paintings are reminiscent of a bygone era. However Carson uses modern techniques in many of the paintings; paint drips and muted, almost faded, patches of canvas, punctuated by dark shadows or bright features. Carson's portraits are beautifully painterly, sensual, and satisfying.

I loved everyday theme and very original dripping ink

  2. I love this work. Why no book?

  3. Delightfully moody – provocatively so.

  4. Love your technique! So lovely and moody!

  5. Wow! Excellent collection of works. “Faraway Look” is my favorite.

  6. I love your paintings and am quite interested in how you developed your technique. Do you use live models? Many of the paintings seem to be of the same model. Are any of them memory paintings? And I love your use of black, and your use of photo transfers. How did you come to this point? Your background in design and love of fashion is apparent. What’s going on here? Just wondering.
