Computer art – Jared Tarbell’s otherworldly digital masterpieces

I've been curious about computer generated artwork but didn't expect it to take my breath away. Until I found the work of Jared Tarbell. Jared, born in 1974 in Albequerque, New Mexico started using computers in 1987 and since then went on to get a BS in Computer Science from New Mexico State University. He sits on the board of the Austin Museum of Digital Art and co-founded the internet marketplace for handmade goods, Etsy. Jared writes computer programs to generate the digital images and distributes the source code so others can modify and experiment with the algorithms. The images below show a sample of his stunning artwork, but Jared's website includes applets that show mesmerizing images of the art work in transformation and I was slightly stunned as I watched the videos. These computer and human generated works are reminiscent of ocean currents or supernovas or minerals, infused with an organic natural beauty.
